Reusable Elastic Tape
Most of the medical adhesive sheets available in the market are designed to provide a very light and thin film to cover the wound. The adhesive strength of sheets may not be sufficient for forming a solid interface between the tapes and skin. Medical adhesives with high tackiness are difficult to be removed and result in pain and damage to skin. The ideal tapes are reusable for several months and cleaned daily with water. The research team has developed a re-peelable adhesive elastic tape containing an elastic polymer micro-fabricated with the biomimetic nano- or micro- surface pattern. The pattern is inspired by insect’s attachment mechanism which can achieve a good adhesion to the substrate and a clear foot removal without too much effort.
External fixation of subluxed joint
Control range of motion of injured joint
Partially replacing function of injured muscle
Progressive correction of deformity of extremities, e.g. clubfeet
Adhere devices to the skin
This project solves the technical problem of tapes available in the market, providing an easy peeling, easy to clean patterned viscoelastic tape which is reusable with a micro-nano structures surface. The micro-nano surface structure pattern is set by an array columns constituted of a viscoelastic adhesive tape made of an elastic polymer material. The patterned surface has a micro-nano structure formed by cylindrical body with a sticky end.
A non-exclusive licence covers the knowhow includes the patent document for the development of functional elastic tapes for rehabilitation.
