R&D in the textiles and clothing discipline concerns practical application of science. HKRITA has made used of its research strength to develop different series of uniform for different government departments which covers a wide spectrum of the textile supply chain from materials science, to textiles engineering, to fabric processing, to functional assessments and management. By applying technologies on areas such as design optimization, and selection of functional materials and functional finishing, HKRITA has developed functional uniforms that address to the needs and performance of special work applications.
Advanced evaluation systems developed by HKRITA or the research institutes such as Fabric Touch Tester, CAD Simulation System, Walter™ Sweating Manikin and Climatic Chamber were applied to provide accurate data simulating human body’s sensory responses to the fabric or external environment. Addition to the production of uniforms, some projects also lay down a set of technical specification for the departments’ further purchase.
HKRITA once worked with the Correctional Services Department, Fire Services Department, Marine Police and Food and Environmental Hygiene Department to develop their uniform with consideration of their unique work environments respectively. In these projects, a series of meticulous tests, analysis and evaluation on functions like tensile strength, waterproof and windproof were conducted to select the most suitable fabric.
Consulting services on the production of functional uniforms can be provided, including functional design, materials sourcing, trial, fabric processing, production and devising technical specifications. Novel evaluation technologies of HKRITA are available to evaluate the performance of the uniforms.
