Functional and Decorative Textile Products through Sputtering Technology

The project investigates the potential benefits of metallised textile and fashion design process by applying sputtering technology with alloys of metals. A series of treatments will be undertaken, including pre-treatment, sputtering and post-treatment. There are three major objectives: to develop sputtering technology application on metallised fabric design; to examine the properties of the textile products under such treatment and to develop innovative metallised textile products for high-end garments and accessories.

Technological breakthrough

  • Deposited metal particles are dense and evenly distributed, it can coat on different types of textile structures and fibres.
  • Coated fabrics have metallic appearance and soft handle with thin metal film.
  • It is a non-aqueous process, without discharging any polluted water and materials.
