Further to the announcement of calling for R&D project applications on 6 June 2008, HKRITA organised a briefing session to provide an overview of our R&D programmes and the relevant application procedures on 25 June 2008. Although the tropical cyclone warning signal no. 8 was hoisted in that morning, the good turn out of the participants brightened up the rescheduled briefing session that afternoon....

Study visit to Shengzhou for Innovation and Technology Development in Textiles

A delegation formed by HKRITA and the Institute of Textiles and Clothing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University visited Shengzhou, Zhejiang on 23 April 2008. The visit aimed on studying the textiles industry and its innovation and technology development in Shengzhou. The delegation was warmly received by the Shengzhou Government and the Science Technic Station, Shengzhou. A meeting was held between the Mayor of Shengzhou and the delegation to discuss how to facilitate the technology exchange and development between Hong Kong and Shengzhou textiles industry.....

Advanced Clothing Functional Design CAD Technologies

During the product development process, the level of protection or comfort of the materials applied on the functional clothing like skiwear can only be estimated based on subjective human experience before a real sample is made. With the funding support of HKRITA, the Institute of Textiles and Clothing, PolyU has developed an advanced functional computer aided design (CAD) technology, aims on developing high performance apparel products with desirable thermal, biomechanical and medical functions. The CAD technology is developed for commercial application in design of textiles, apparel, medical devices and buildings. Functional performance of the apparel can be simulated by the CAD software, therefore, designers can select appropriate functional materials for the products effectively......
