Scientific research is often seen as some unfathomable issues inside the ivory tower that has nothing to do with the general public. In fact, our daily life is usually improved by the fruit of the research. For example, some athletes of the 2008 Hong Kong Olympic team put on sportswear from the project “High-performance Sportswear and Devices” conducted by The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel.

Projects 3 and 4 fall under the Guangdong-Hong Kong Technology Cooperation Funding Scheme 2007, which aims to support applied R&D projects that will facilitate economic development in the Greater Pearl River Delta(PRD)region. Under this scheme, the governments of HKSAR and Guangdong invite R&D project proposals in technology areas of common interest and provide funding support to approved projects.
