Development of Fabric Surface Modification Method for Natural Coloration Application based on Metal Organic Framework (MOF)

In this project, metal organic framework (MOF) modification will be developed as fabric surface modification method to facilitate natural coloration and antimicrobial application. The objectives of this project are: (i) To apply and select the MOF system by different approach for cotton fabric, wool fabric and cotton/polyester fabric; (ii) To promote the natural colorant uptake into fabric by MOF modification; (iii) To promote the antimicrobial properties by MOF/natural colorant system. Metal organic framework (MOF) with high surface area and capability for capturing the colorant molecules benefit the colorant uptake in coloration process and combined with the natural colorant to possess the antimicrobial properties. It is expected that the outcomes of this project can achieve higher color strength and antimicrobial properties of fabric products.
