Nowadays, manufacturing of bra cup industry becomes more challenging due to a large number of styles and low production volume. Moreover, fashion styles change in 8-10 seasons a year compared to 3-4 seasons in the past, thus the lifecycle is only 4-6 weeks from design to the market. Traditional manufacturing process is so complex that it cannot afford the above market change. It normally takes 4 to 5 days to go through all the processes, which is difficult to be compressed. Since the set up cost is quite expensive, a small batch size will not be cost effective. How to achieve quick response manufacturing has become the significant issue for local intimate apparel manufacturers. The industry is looking for a novel manufacturing technology to facilitate its survival capability under the rapid change in market and environment. This project aims to enable 3D printing technology in bra cup industry. The proposed hybrid 3D printing system will assist the industry to shorten their development and production lead time, and enable the customized, small batch quick response production.
